Why choose our 16-inch inner tubes?
The 16-inch wheel size is one of the most technical on the market. Two tyres marked “16 inch” may in fact have different internal diameters, making compatibility a common source of error. This collection has been carefully structured to include all our 16-inch inner tubes, covering both the most common standards and more specific formats — including wide mini-fat tyres up to 16x4.00.
Which vehicles are these inner tubes suitable for?
Depending on tyre width and, crucially, the ETRTO diameter, our 16-inch inner tubes are suitable for:
- Kids’ bikes (learning bikes, school bikes, everyday use)
- BMX bikes and small leisure bikes
- Folding bikes (including models using ETRTO 349, often referred to as “large-format 16-inch”)
- Bike trailers for children or cargo
- Pushchairs and running buggies fitted with pneumatic wheels
- Specialised small bikes and certain extra-wide tyre setups (mini-fat)
How to choose the right 16-inch inner tube (key point: ETRTO)
To order the correct inner tube, always rely on the ETRTO marking printed on the tyre sidewall (format XX–XXX).
- The first number indicates the tyre width (in millimetres)
- The second number indicates the internal diameter (rim diameter, in millimetres)
1) “Classic” 16-inch standard: ETRTO 305
This is the most widespread format, commonly found on kids’ bikes, many bike trailers, and a large proportion of wide tyres.
Typical inch sizes (depending on width): 16x1.75, 16x2.125, up to 16x3.00 and even 16x4.00.
2) “Folding bike” 16-inch standard: ETRTO 349
Mainly used on high-quality folding bikes.
Important: an inner tube designed for ETRTO 305 will not fit a 349 tyre (and vice versa).
Typical inch sizes: 16x1 1/8, 16x1 1/4, 16x1 3/8, etc.
3) Less common standards: ETRTO 330 and 340
These rarer sizes appear on specific setups and sometimes on older equipment. This category also includes compatible solutions for these dimensions whenever available.
Valve type: Presta or Schrader — what should you choose?
Before purchasing, check the rim drilling and the valve type of your current inner tube:
- Schrader valve (car-type): wider, commonly found on kids’ bikes and leisure-oriented setups
- Presta valve: slimmer, frequently used on folding bikes and performance-focused builds
Practical tips to prevent punctures and ensure a smooth installation
- Always inspect the inside of the tyre for thorns, glass or debris before fitting a new tube
- Check the condition of the rim tape — damaged rim tape is a common cause of unexplained punctures
- Slightly inflate the inner tube before installation to avoid pinching
- Follow the recommended tyre pressure indicated on the sidewall
