How to choose the right 24 inch inner tube
The 24 inch wheel size is somewhat unique in the world of bicycle tyres, as it includes several different internal diameters. For this reason, it’s essential not to rely solely on the “24 inch” marking. Always check the ETRTO size printed on the sidewall of your tyre (for example: 50-507 or 47-559). This information ensures perfect compatibility between your tyre, rim and inner tube.
Our range of 24 inch inner tubes covers all the most common uses found across the UK and European markets, organised into several main categories.
1. MTB, Junior, BMX & compact cargo standard – ETRTO 507
This is the most widespread 24 inch standard, used on children’s and junior bikes, 24” mountain bikes, BMX bikes, many urban bikes, as well as certain compact cargo bikes and electric bikes.
In this category, you’ll find inner tubes suitable for a wide range of tyre widths, from versatile everyday sizes (24x1.50, 24x1.75, 24x1.90, 24x2.00, 24x2.10) to wide and extra-wide tyres (24x2.25, 24x2.35, 24x2.40, 24x2.60, 24x2.80, 24x3.00, 24x3.50 and up to 24x4.00).
2. Narrow profiles, specialist bikes & wheelchairs – ETRTO 520, 534 and 540
These sizes are mainly found on manual and active wheelchairs, certain junior bikes with narrow tyres, as well as older or more specialised bicycle designs. The corresponding inner tubes are slimmer and feature an internal diameter different from the MTB standard.
Common formats include:
- ETRTO 520: 24x0.90, 24x1.00, 24x1 1/8
- ETRTO 540: 24x3/4, 24x1.00, 24x1 3/8 (very common on wheelchairs)
- ETRTO 534: the classic 24x1 1/2 size
3. The specific ETRTO 559 case
Some less common configurations use an ETRTO 559 internal diameter, such as 24x1.95 (47-559). These inner tubes are not interchangeable with the 507 standard and must always be selected strictly according to the tyre’s exact ETRTO marking.
Why inner tube quality really matters
Whether it’s for the safety of a child’s bike, the reliability of an electric bike, or the daily use of a wheelchair, the quality of the inner tube is crucial. Our inner tubes are selected for their elasticity, long-term air retention, and reinforced valve bases (Presta or Schrader depending on the model), helping to reduce the risk of punctures, pinch flats and premature air loss.
Overview of compatible sizes
This category includes inner tubes compatible with the following main sizes:
- Narrow profiles: 24x3/4, 24x0.90, 24x1.00, 24x1.10, 24x1 1/8, 24x1 3/8, 24x1 1/2
- Intermediate profiles: 24x1.20, 24x1.25, 24x1.35, 24x1.50, 24x1.60, 24x1.625
- MTB & all-round profiles: 24x1.75, 24x1.85, 24x1.90, 24x1.95, 24x2.00, 24x2.10, 24x2.125, 24x2.15, 24x2.25
- Wide & extra-wide profiles: 24x2.35, 24x2.40, 24x2.50, 24x2.60, 24x2.80, 24x3.00, 24x3.50, 24x4.00
Practical tip: before ordering, always check the valve type required by your rim and the exact ETRTO size printed on your tyre. This simple check will prevent any compatibility issues and ensure you get the best performance from your 24 inch inner tube.
